Adoption Stories

Pups Without Borders is comprised of a passionate team of dedicated animal activists. We work tirelessly to to find wonderful homes for dogs and puppies in need.

Tater Tot

My name is Todd Lewis and my family was lucky enough to meet Evie and Adopt the sweetest, smartest and most beautiful lab pitty mix named Tater Tot. Evie fostered Tater after she rescued her from a kill shelter with only 48 hrs left before she was euthanized. We are forever greatful to Evie and her team. The adoption process was super smooth and easy. We are so happy we adopted a pup from Evie that we offered to pay it forward and foster other puppies for her. So far we have fostered two wonderful pups all which quickly found furever homes. My family can’t thank Evie enough.

Riley and Molly

My family and I were looking for a dog for at least a year, even more intently the last 6 months. When we were about to give up, we found Evie. An instant connection occurred. She was very understanding, transparent and quick in correspondence which was such a relief. She truly made my daughter feel comfortable since this was her first experience with dogs. It was very apparent how much she cared for the Mama dogs and puppies in her rescue. We knew we were in the right hands to find our next family member. We were so impressed with the process that we brought home TWO fur babies. We are in love with Riley and Molly!

Frankie

My boyfriend and I adopted Frankie in July and we both agree it was the best decision we’ve made. Eve responded to my online application quickly, asked a few questions about our experience with dogs and our plan for our new puppy. I could tell she really wanted to make sure the puppies were going to good homes. She explained that despite being born stray all the puppies were in good health (and the Mom too). We picked up Frankie from Eve’s house a few days later and she gave us all of Frankie’s medical records (she had already had 1 round of vaccinations). She made it a really easy process and gave us the contact info for the adopters of Frankie’s siblings. It has been so fun to see photos of all the siblings growing up in their forever homes. She even helped us arrange to have Frankie spayed. We are so grateful to Eve for helping us adopt our Frankie. We couldn’t be happier with our experience.

Louie and Bella

After bad experiences with other Rescues including rude responses or no response at all, working with Evie was (is) great! She made everything so easy, and it was clear to see that she really loves all the dogs that she rescues. We rescued two, a brother and sister named Magneto and Kitty Pryde, now named Bella and Louie and they are our joy! We also fostered an abandoned mother who surprised us by having her pups almost two weeks before the vet expected them and Evie supported us all the way! Thank you Evie!

Fenway

Fenway joined our family at the perfect time—in the middle of a pandemic, when our kid was getting tired of being the only child!

We had made the decision to adopt a dog and spent months filling out applications and either being rejected or not hearing back. We knew we were looking for a unicorn: a rescue who would be comfortable with cats and a small child. After lots of searching and disappointment, we considered whether a puppy—someone we could raise with our family members who would love them early and learn to be good with them—might be the best fit. No sooner had we decided we were open to that, Evie and her rescue group serendipitously popped up on a pet rescue aggregate site. We reached out, and she got back to us right away. The foster-to-adopt and adoption process went so smoothly, and Evie was so great about communicating with us whenever we had questions. Fenway became a part of our family, and Evie and Peaches did too!

Captain America

We had almost lost hope of finding a friend for our dog, Nubby, when we were lucky enough to find Evie. During the pandemic, so many people were trying to get a dog that many of the rescues I contacted never even bothered to get back to me. Those that did return my message wanted us to take a dog without a chance for a meet-and-greet with Nubby. We knew that wouldn’t work because we had tried to introduce Nubby to potential new buddies prior to the pandemic and she was not interested in any of them. When I emailed Evie to inquire about a puppy she had listed, she responded immediately. She answered all of my questions—and I ask A LOT of questions. She was gracious enough to have us, including Nubby, come to her home to meet different puppies over a couple of months. As picky as Nubby was, my husband and I were pickier. We needed a dog that fit into our lifestyle AND one that Nubby approved of. I worried that Evie might lose patience with us and be unwilling to adopt to us because we were so particular, but that never happened. Evie continued to keep me up to date about new pups that might be a fit for our family. She had sent us pictures of some terrier puppies in Mexico that she was planning to bring to the US. It took a while for the pups to arrive, but it was worth the wait. Captain America was the first puppy that Nubby liked. And even though The Captain weighed 6 pounds and Nubby weighed 80 pounds, Captain America was not afraid of her either. We wanted to have our vet check him out to make sure he was healthy, but we couldn’t get an appointment for several days. Evie trusted us enough to let us keep Captain America with us until the appointment so we could be sure he was a good match for us. By then, Nubby and Captain America were best friends, so we were very happy that he passed muster with our vet. Captain America has completed our family and he and Nubby spend all day every day playing together. We are forever grateful to Evie and her passion for finding the right match for the animals she rescues and the families that adopt them.

Judy

We fell in love with Judy’s mom, Callie, who is truly one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs ever. I saw a heart-melting video on the Pups Without Borders Instagram of Callie nurturing Judy and her littermates. We knew that if Judy was anything like Callie, then we would have the best dog. (We were not wrong 😊) Callie was rescued from Mexico while pregnant with Judy and her littermates. We are eternally grateful to Pups Without Borders for rescuing Callie and giving her a loving, comfortable and healthy birthing experience.

We reached out to Pups Without Borders inquiring about adopting one of Callie’s puppies. From the beginning, Evie from Pups Without Borders was incredibly friendly, supportive and accommodating. What we really, really appreciate about our adoption process was that Evie allowed us to meet Callie and her puppies before deciding which puppy we wanted. We had been doing a bunch of homework on picking the right dog for our lifestyle and knew that we didn’t want an alpha dog. We were able to observe Callie and her puppies which was not only one of the most heart warming things to experience, but also so helpful in deciding which puppy we wanted. Judy stood out to us as a very gentle, sweet, playful puppy which we loved. She also would fall asleep on our laps and in our arms during our visits to Pups Without Borders which made us feel like she would be the cuddle bug of our dreams.

Judy is almost 6 months old and has been a healthy, happy puppy ever since we brought her home from Pups Without Borders. She is incredibly gentle, adores people, has a wonderful appetite for adventure (and rotisserie chicken). Judy brings an immeasurable amount of joy, laughter and love into every single day of our lives! She is our best buddy and literally goes everywhere with us- hiking, to the beach, Home Depot.

Emma

When my husband and I were looking for a dog to rescue we had been searching for a few months. I found Pups Without Borders on Petfinder. I went to the website and read about them. I reached out to see if they had any available sweet little poodle mix dogs. Joanna was kind and took our information down. Not even a month later I received a phone call from Joanna. The organization was about to rescue a sweet maltipoo 2 year old dog.

Our Emma was found in Mexico and had been hit by a vehicle. She had to have her back leg amputated. The staff over there said she was getting along well and that she was just the sweetest thing. Evie was going to pick her up and have her stay with a foster mom. They had a vet check her and kept my husband and me up to date on how she was doing with texts and photos.

Emma has adjusted so well. She has a doggy door she uses.. Sweet girl sleeps in our room though she prefers to sleep on pillows rather than the bed we bought her. She understands Spanish, English, and now Punjabi. She loves to cuddle and go for walks. Emma is always ready for an adventure as well. She is just the sweetest little thing. She was exactly what we were looking for. Everyone who has met her is obsessed with her. We are beyond grateful to Pups Without Borders for rescuing her and bringing her into our lives. Our hearts are beyond full.

April

We were a family of three looking to expand and adopt a young fur sibling who would grow up with our five-year-old son. Due to the pandemic, it was a challenging time to adopt! At the beginning of 2021, we began our search and found many rescues did not respond or were unable to set up a meeting. It felt impersonal until I came across Pups Without Borders on Pet Finder and the sweetest face named April! I immediately applied and was thrilled to hear from Joanna, who took the time to tell me about the rescue and answer my questions about April – who is a mom rescued from Mexico and gave birth to four puppies. I felt a connection with Joanna and knew we were finally in the right hands!

When we met April, her foster gave us so much time to be with her, cuddle, feed her, and answered all our questions. We fell in love and let them know right away that we wanted to be her forever home. I deeply appreciate the care given to us and April during the transition. The foster Mom, Olivia, even invited us to take her on a walk for a second visit before picking her up that weekend. We couldn’t wait!

It’s been over two months and we still feel the support through a group chat that also allows us to see photos of April’s pups growing up. We feel incredibly lucky! April is a cuddle bug who loves weekend hikes, going for walks with the family, and daily playdates with our neighbor’s pup. Thank you – Joanna, Olivia, and Pups Without Borders! We can’t imagine our world without her!

Milo

Our family had some specifications for a new rescue- I have severe allergies to most types of fur and our current dog is very selective about his canine pals. We came across Milo on Petfinder and immediately fell in love. His foster Rosie drove out of her way to a neutral meeting spot and hung out with us for over an hour in the park. Milo was rescued from the streets of Tijuana by Joanna and her team. He was extraordinarily nervous, terrified of people, loud noises, sudden movements, and even his leash. Being experienced with dogs that need extra help, we decided right away that he was the one for us. And our dog Finn, who is usually kind of a prickly guy, loved Milo too! They quickly became best friends. After a few weeks, Milo showed us his true colors- he’s super friendly, playful, and very cuddly. We feel very lucky to have him in our family!
